Healthcare Accreditation, The Ticket To Entry

Yesterday I spent part of my afternoon speaking to administrators about the topic of accreditation specific to cancer care and their programs.

We discussed NAPBC (National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers) ACoS-CoC (American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer) and many other types of accreditation available to cancer programs.

The conclusion: Accreditation used to be the way in which programs could differentiate themselves competitively. Today, it is only a ticket to entry.

As the majority of programs become increasingly equal amongst accreditation and technology my hope is that administrators will focus on the people they employ to provide the differentiation their patients and communities seek.

A focus on the right people will provide more “Art” for patients and the communities we care for in the world of healthcare.
